Bitcoin price fell sharply after the previous day set an all-time high of US $ 58,354 per coin due to profit taking.
Reuters reported on Monday (22/2/2021), the price of Bitcoin fell 6% then the decline dec...reased in price to 4.4% to US $ 54,941. Rival Ether fell 7% to US $ 1,798 per coin, after printing its highest price last Saturday.Traders call this correction mostly technical in nature and not related to any news sentiment.

"Lately we've seen some momentum gathering over the weekend, but the momentum isn't continuing," said Joseph Edwards of Enigma Securities, a London-based cryptocurrency broker.

"We tend to think that there are good opportunities for a bad week and a small correction to come from here, although that doesn't have much effect on its medium-term outlook."

In the last two months the price of Bitcoin has almost doubled from the price of the end of 2020. This is due to the actions of a number of large companies such as Tesla, Mastercard Inc. to BNY Mellon starting to open up to cryptocurrency.

For some, this is interpreted as an opportunity to expand the acceptance of large companies in cryptocurrency so that Bitcoin can be accepted as an investment asset and means of payment in the future.Show more >

Dok se gospodarstva diljem svijeta oporavljaju od ekonomskih posljedica lockdowna koji su izazvali koronakrizu, burze su u drugoj polovici prošle godine počele aktivnije trgovati. Nagovještaj je to oporavka kojeg su prognozirali Međunarodni monetarni fond, Svjetska banka i Europska komisija. No, kratku, ali duboku krizu gotovo da nisu niti osjetile kriptovalute. Ona najjača, bitcoin, postala je još jača, pa je proteklog utorka po prvi puta njegova vrijednost prekoračila magičnu granicu od 50.000 dolara. Tako je vrijednost jednog bitcoina u trenutku pisanja teksta bila oko 55.286 dolara ili 345.401 kuna i neprekidno je oscilirala.

Za to bi se moglo kriviti kretanja na paralelnom, digitalnom financijskom tržištu, no vrijednost bitcoina je skočila za 14 posto kada je južnoafrički multimilijarder i trenutno najbogatiji čovjek na svijetu, Elon Musk najavio da će Tesla uložiti milijardu i pol dolara u bitcoine te da će se njima moći kupovati njegova električna vozila. Od početka godine, vrijednost bitcoina porasla je za ukupno 72 posto, pa su tu u igri svakako i brojni drugi faktori.

Jedan od njih je i to, što ga je, prema riječima ekonomskog analitičara Marija Gatare, nemoguće svrstati niti u jednu klasičnu kategoriju financijskog dobra. Usprkos tome, usporedio ga je s jednim od najcjenjenijih dobara, po čijoj se vrijednosti burze i dalje ravnaju.

“Ključna je stvar da je bitcoin teško klasificirati ili kategorizirati. On nije imovina, jer ne donosi nekakav prinos. Nije ni valuta u ovom trenutku, jer nije općeprihvaćeno sredstvo plaćanja, zato što toliko divlja i ima ogromne oscilacije. Ekonomisti se još uvijek spore oko toga što je zapravo bitcoin. Vjerojatno je najbliži zlatu i sličnim kategorijama”, pojasnio je Gatara za Net.hr te dodao da ne može objasniti varijacije u vrijednosti bitcoina, istaknuvši kako se vjerojatno radi o euforiji u kojoj se ljudi nadaju kako će njegova vrijednost biti još veća.

The long-awaited Purpose Bitcoin ETF in Canada is proving to be very popular.

North America’s first ever Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) launched today. It traded $165 million-worth of shares in its... first day, including $80 million in its first hour, according to Bloomberg data.

The Purpose Bitcoin ETF was approved in Canada earlier this month and runs on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The physical Bitcoin that the ETF trades is stored by crypto exchange, Gemini.

According to Bloomberg ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas, it was an “epic full first day” for Purpose.

Exchange traded funds allow investors to buy and sell shares continually throughout the day.

The Bitcoin ETF allows investors to buy shares that represent the digital asset without having to actually own the cryptocurrency themselves.

The world’s first Bitcoin ETF got approval in Bermuda last year.

Purpose’s Bitcoin ETF allows “easy and efficient access” to Bitcoin “without the associated risk of self-custody within a digital wallet,” according to Purpose, the asset management company running the ETF.

“We believe Bitcoin, as the first and largest asset in the emerging cryptocurrency ecosystem, is poised to continue its growth trajectory and adoption as an alternative asset, further cementing the investment opportunity it presents,” Purpose CEO Som Seif said in a statement.

Purpose’s Bitcoin ETF is the first such ETF in North America. In the US, regulators have yet to approve one. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rejected applications from companies that want to launch an ETF, including Bitwise and Wilshire Phoenix. The SEC claims that a "real" Bitcoin market doesn’t exist in the US, and that the currency’s price is prone to manipulation by those with significant holdings.

But Canada has had some luck, it seems: the Purpose Bitcoin ETF got the green light on February 11. And a second ETF, by Evolve Funds Group, also got approval this month—but it isn’t up and running yet.

After today’s success, perhaps a Bitcoin ETF in the US may be one step closer to a reality. Though that might not be a good thing.

Quantum Economics analyst Charles Bovaird told Decrypt: “Since a Bitcoin ETF has launched in Canada, this development might ‘steal the thunder’ surrounding the launch of any such fund in the US."

Bovaird added: “More specifically, the existence of this Canadian ETF could make the approval of any US ETF less of a milestone, since it would not be the first fund of this kind to be approved by regulators.”

The existence of one or more Canadian ETFs, said the analyst, could reduce the trading volume that a US Bitcoin ETF draws if and when it finally obtains approval from the SEC.Show more >

The number of validators on the Ethereum 2.0 blockchain has topped a milestone of 60,000 in only six weeks of being live.

According to the Beacon Chain analytics platform, there are currently 60,189 ac...tive validators on the network with a further 16,156 waiting in the queue. BeaconScan is reporting similar figures which means the network, which was launched on Dec 1, is more secure than ever.

The validator milestone was noted by the Ethereum community’s Josh Stark who compared the ETH 2.0 validator numbers with rival blockchains.
