I think blockchain is really about governance & that means how we organize ourselves to democratize benefits from data & to enable trade in digital assets created from that data w/o intermediaries.
This is about behavioral change & incentives. I think it is possible to design incentives into an economic model orchestrated (word used with care) by a utility token & smart contracts. I see this as autonomous as once humans design it, it can to a certain extent run itself.

Ref: Outlier Ventures. It’s important to define what we mean by the use of certain words. In the renaissance we created a limited liability company. In law it was possible to create a new organisation entirely separate from its owners. Is there a new revolutionary type of organisation created by blockchains?
Well there must be if it is about governance.
I think this is a behavioural model written in code by humans & voted on by a combination of behaviour & governance/voting mechanisms.
To me this is both decentralised & distributed and I do like the term autonomous because the behaviours required to orchestrate the community or organisation are captured in code & voting, & not by traditional hierarchies which can now be disinter-mediated.
