A great question what is DeFi?

DeFi means Decentralized Application - that doesn't mean much to the average person?

So the difference between CeFi - Centralized Finance means they are all exchange based, so KYC is a must, everything is pretty much visible as per the agreements with a normal bank.

DeFi is different as there's no one exchange where all your details are kept, there's no need for KYC, which in the boom of 2018 turned a lot off Crypto as there was and is a need for privacy.

Let me now introduce you to Defi
Chainlink in 2017 was worth per coin $0.09 cents current prices of @chainlink are now $20.00 and rising daily, fueled by Ethereum which is the way most coins are purchased, do this two ways either buy through your normal exchange such as Coinbase or buy direct via Uniswap which is reported to be a 5 times unicorn, and they are doing so well an IPO is about to be released.

Coins to look at currently for beginners are
Chainlink #link
Uniswap #uni
Wrapped Bitcoin #wbtc
Synthectic Protocol #snx

I post on twitter everyday about the latest information and trades regarding DeFi so if you wish to please join me at https://twitter.com/DefiCrypt

Hope this has been a goo start for you to investigate more now it's peaked your interest.
